Generalities:
It belongs to a genus of bacilli formed by more than 50 species. Present in nature in soils, water, food ... and also present in the mucous membranes and skin of humans and other animal species. With the sweat they proliferate and cause the characteristic smell.
The diphtheriae species can be pathogenic, especially in immunosuppressed people (it produces diphtheria toxin). It particularly affects respiratory tract causing: pneumonitis, pharyngitis, endocrititis, lymphadenitis.
It could also be the cause of atopic dermatitis.
The use of catheters, valves or similar devices favors infectious processes.
Transmission:
Present in skin, mucous membranes and in the environment.
