Generalities:
Coxiella burnetii is a species of intracellular pathogenic bacteria, similar to rickettsiae, but with certain genetic and physiological differences. C. burnetii is a small Gram-negative bacillus, with two growth phases, as well as a dormant spore form in the soil. It can survive common disinfectants and is resistant to many other changes in the environment. The ID50 means that 50% of individuals who come into contact with the bacteria can become infected. The disease occurs in two stages: an acute state with headache, chills and respiratory symptoms, followed by an insidious chronic phase.
Transmission:
It is transmitted by air.
