Hepatic encephalopathy
Type: Multiple causes
Generalities:
Hepatic encephalopathy is due to poor functioning of the liver, which causes various toxins to be unable to be eliminated from the bloodstream, in turn affecting the nervous system. Symptoms can be:
- Confusion, disorientation
- Poor concentration, forgetfulness, poor discernment
- Changes in sleep patterns
- Personality or mood changes
- Poor gross coordination (tremors) and fine coordination (writing, language)
- Slow movements
- Agitation, excitement
