Generalities:
Currently called Streptococcus gallolyticus, (bovis) It is a bacterium that is a regular part of the intestinal flora in humans and many other mammals. It can cause systemic infection, especially a consequence of a colon injury. If a systemic infection occurs, it can affect the individual in different ways such as endocarditis, septicemia, meningitis, espondilodiscitis (infection of the vertebral disc).

It is part of the intestinal flora.
