Generalities:

Monkeypox, also known as MPOX is a virus belonging to the Orthopoxvirus genus, which is transmitted from animals to humans.
The virus is endemic to central Africa, with a higher incidence in the Republic of the Congo. Discovered in 1960 in Denmark, in 2022 it raised the alarm as the number of infections increased. And again in August 2024 the World Health Organization classified it as an “international public health emergency”.

Transmission

The virus is transmitted mainly through sexual contact, generally through bodily fluids. It can be transmitted through micro-droplets of saliva when in close proximity to an infected person, or through various objects such as cell phones, clothing, etc. People at greatest risk of infection are homosexuals or people who have sex with multiple partners.
