Platelets are part of the composition of blood, it´s function is to help form clots. The normal level of platelets is between 150,000 to 400,000 per microliter of blood (mcL). An excess of platelets creates clots or thrombi that can obstruct the bloodstream in some region of the circulatory system, on the contrary the decrease in platelets retards the coagulation process that is necessary in case of suffering some hemorrhage or wound.
