Generalities:
It can invade the Red Blood Cells. It may be confused with Malaria.
It is one of the most aggressive parasites, causing Malaria. It presents a complex life cycle that requires two hosts: one vertebrate and another invertebrate. It is transmitted through the mosquito Anopheles sp. First it travels to the liver where it multiplies for about 5 days, proceeding to infect the bloodstream, attacking the erythrocytes, while continuing to multiply.
It is difficult to treat because it has developed resistance to most antibiotics.
