Diverticulosis, diverticulitis
Type: Multiple causes
Generalities:
Diverticula are small pocket-shaped cavities that form in the large intestine, most common near the end portion: the sigmoid and nearby areas. This condition is called diverticulosis. They can be compared to hernias as they are formed from weakened bowel tissue. It is estimated that one third of people over 60 can have them, however, in most cases there are no symptoms.
